Mile High Club v. Wheels of Justice Recap

In an highly anticipated bout this past weekend WFTDA-ranked #4 Denver Mile High Club took on #3 Rose City Roller's Wheels of Justice.The match started slowly. WOJ's White Flight took lead, but with Mile High Club's Heather Juska on her heels White Flight was forced to call it in a scoreless jam. Soulfearic Acid matched up against MHC's Sandrine Rangeon in jam 2; Soulfearic Acid took lead but was only able to grab 2 points before Rangeon caught her. WOJ's Scald Eagle grabbed 1 point against MHC's Sharpless in jam 3, while White Flight took one point over Juska in jam 4. After 4 jams the score was 4-0 in favor of Wheels of Justice.Then came trouble.Soulfearic Acid picked up lead in the fifth jam while Rangeon was sent to the penalty box for a major low block. Soulfearic picked up 14 points, but then replaced Rangeon in the penalty box after committing a major back block. Rangeon managed to grab 5, but was again sent to the box for another low block. Rangeon started in the box during jam 6. Soulfearic Acid was quickly released and able to gain 10 more points, making the score 28-5 after six jams. Scald Eagle bumped that up to 32-5 with a 4-0 run over MHC's Julie Adams.Then in jam 7 Denver failed to field a jammer. With Ariel Quigley and Susie Long sent to the box, Krisana Barrett and Monica Carson were left to defend against White Flight and a nasty Rose City pack. White Flight put up a 30-0 jam for a score of 62-5 early in the first period.But the Mile High Club wasn't about to give up. Heather Juska gave the Mile High Club a much needed 15-0 jam. Sharpless added 2 points the following jam and Julie Adams scored 3 in jam 12. With the score 62-25, it looked like Denver might be inching their way back into striking distance. But back-to-back 4-0 jams by Soulfearic Acid and Scald Eagle turned the momentum back in Rose City's favor.The two teams traded points back and forth, with a halftime score of 88-43.In the first jam of the second half, Rose City tried to squash Denver's hopes of a comeback. Soulfearic Acid scored 8-0 over Mile High Club standout Heather Juska who ended the jam with a broken finger and did not play the rest of the bout.Denver chipped at the lead a little bit in the next few jams, with 3-0 and 4-0 jams for Rangeon, but Rose quickly answered with a 14-0 run by Scald Eagle and a 10-4 jam for Soulfearic Acid.At 120-54 the Mile High Club looked dead in the water, but they weren't about to give up. A pair of back-to-back 5-0 jams from Adams and Rangeon got the Denver fans excited, but it was Sharpless's 19-4 jam against WOJ's Scald Eagle that really turned the heat up. Two jams later Adams put up a 10-0 run, followed by a 4-0 jam from Sharpless, a 4-0 jam from Rangeon, and a 4-0 jam from Sharpless.  Denver outscored the Wheels of Justice 53-10 in the space of nine jams. With just a few minutes left the score was 130-107.Unfortunately there just wasn't enough time. Soulfearic Acid put up a 2-0 run, followed by a 10-0 run on a power jam, and ended the Mile High Club's dramatic comeback.Final score: Wheels of Justice 151-Mile High Club-115.
