January 25, 2019Dear Roller Derby Community:We are happy to announce that we've recently entered into a sponsorship agreement with the United States Coast Guard. We hope you'll join us in welcoming The Guard to our upcoming home team bouts during the 2019 season, where you'll see uniformed members at an informational table as well as USCG patches on our home team jerseys.Over the years, our league has been home to numerous armed forces veterans, active duty, and reserve members. They are a proud part of our family, and we hope that all leagues feel the same way about their military-affiliated members. We also recognize that we're part of a community that's a leader in inclusion and non-discrimination, and we are committed to making sure peoples' rights are protected and respected. We vehemently disagree with the current Administration's stance on transgender military service, and we hope that the Supreme Court eventually strikes down any and all policy attempts to abridge the rights of any human being who's chosen to serve their country in the military. However, we also recognize that our armed forces are institutions that exist outside of the realm of political whims, and that a misguided policy from current political leaders should not reflect negatively on the proud people in uniform, past and present.Denver Roller Derby and the larger roller derby community strive to lead on issues of inclusion and fairness with regard to gender, sexual orientation, identity and equality. We hope that our relationship with the US Coast Guard will be seen partly as a show of solidarity with those people in uniform who may be negatively impacted by shortsighted, regressive and hurtful policies. We're proud to be sponsored by the US Coast Guard, and to stand with all Coasties.Semper Paratus!Board of Directors, Denver Roller Derby

Denver Solidifies Lineup with Key Transfers
DENVER (March 17, 2017) -- Denver Roller Derby heads into the 2017 season of international competition with a newly enhanced roster, featuring two of the biggest names in roller derby -- two-time Women’s Flat Track Derby Association champions Scald Eagle and Brawn Swanson. The sisters helped the Rose City Rollers (Portland, Ore.) to back-to-back WFTDA championships in 2015 and 2016. Along the way, they racked up too many individual honors and scoring statistics to list. Now they’re headed to the Mile High Club -- Denver’s WFTDA Charter team -- to boost a perennial top-10 team known for its stifling defense. “We’re excited to have players of this caliber join us,” said Tim “Dirt Monkey” Burns, head coach of the Mile High Club. “We believe that Eagle’s many years of high-level jamming will give her a good shot at breaking into our lineup as a blocker. With a little time and patience, we hope she’ll become one of our top defensive leaders on the track.”Denver’s made a name for itself over the years as an innovator on the defensive side of the game, with many strategies now in common use throughout roller derby having first been developed right here in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains. Scald Eagle has spent her career as one of the top jammers in the sport, giving her the perspective needed to be an effective part of Denver’s vaunted walls and defensive schemes.“Eagle’s worked hard to get where she is, without a doubt,” said Disco Akers, one of the top blockers in roller derby and Co-Captain of the Mile High Club. “We think it’s the right time for her to take the next natural step in her derby career, and that’s to join us as a blocker.”Eagle is set to hit the track with the Mile High Club for their first games of the season in April, alongside Swanson, the newest addition to Denver’s jammer rotation.
