Denver Welcomes US Coast Guard Sponsorship

January 25, 2019Dear Roller Derby Community:We are happy to announce that we've recently entered into a sponsorship agreement with the United States Coast Guard. We hope you'll join us in welcoming The Guard to our upcoming home team bouts during the 2019 season, where you'll see uniformed members at an informational table as well as USCG patches on our home team jerseys.Over the years, our league has been home to numerous armed forces veterans, active duty, and reserve members. They are a proud part of our family, and we hope that all leagues feel the same way about their military-affiliated members. We also recognize that we're part of a community that's a leader in inclusion and non-discrimination, and we are committed to making sure peoples' rights are protected and respected. We vehemently disagree with the current Administration's stance on transgender military service, and we hope that the Supreme Court eventually strikes down any and all policy attempts to abridge the rights of any human being who's chosen to serve their country in the military. However, we also recognize that our armed forces are institutions that exist outside of the realm of political whims, and that a misguided policy from current political leaders should not reflect negatively on the proud people in uniform, past and present.Denver Roller Derby and the larger roller derby community strive to lead on issues of inclusion and fairness with regard to gender, sexual orientation, identity and equality. We hope that our relationship with the US Coast Guard will be seen partly as a show of solidarity with those people in uniform who may be negatively impacted by shortsighted, regressive and hurtful policies. We're proud to be sponsored by the US Coast Guard, and to stand with all Coasties.Semper Paratus!Board of Directors, Denver Roller Derby
