It’s More Than Just a Game
It’s a way to build confidence. It’s an inclusive community. Oh, and it’s great exercise too.
Denver Roller Derby is proud to present our junior derby teams: Minor and Major Turbulence! We are looking for girls and boys ages 7 to 17. You don’t need to know how to skate to join, you just have to be willing to give roller derby a try! We can supply skates and gear for the first few weeks to let you figure out what gear you need and want.
Roller derby offers exercise, strategy, and teamwork just like any other team sport. However, it also allows skaters to gain confidence and empowerment through their accomplishments on and off the track as well as the community they build with other skaters.
This full contact sport will start out with the beginners being taught the basics of skating by our coaches before engaging in more advanced drills, scrimmages, and eventually bouting.
Beginner skaters (Jet Schoolers) practice Sunday mornings from 8-9:30am. With them, we work on skating basics such as falling properly, skater stride, different stops, and more.
Advanced skaters (Minor Turbulence) practice Sunday mornings from 9:30-11am and Tuesdays from 5-6:30pm. With them, we work on roller derby skills such as hitting, blocking, jamming, and advanced skating skill.
Expert skaters (Major Turbulence) practice on Sunday mornings from 9:30-11am and Wednesdays from 5pm – 6:30pm. This is our competitive/travel team. They work on complex strategies and play at a more aggressive level then our Advanced skaters.
We also have a couple optional practices that the league offers.
Practices are held at 2375 S Delaware St, Denver, CO 80223.
Dues are $25/month for our beginner skaters and $30/month for our advanced and expert skaters. There is also an annual Junior Roller Derby Association insurance fee of $30 that goes from January to December and an annual $15 registration fee.
Roller derby is one of the fastest growing sports in the nation — come and find out why!
