Who We Are

Denver Roller Derby is made up of over 100 people, each doing their part to support the league.

We're a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit and every block, bruise and bout is made possible by the skaters and staff who give their time, energy, and money to our cause.

Each member of the league -- from the top skater on the Mile High Club to the newest Flight School trainee, the referees, the volunteers, and the non-skating officials -- is integral to making Denver Roller Derby Colorado's premier derby league!

We hope you'll take the time to get to know us and then come introduce yourself at the next bout so that we can get to know you too!

Team Spirit

Every skater in the league is put on a home team once they pass a series of basic skills tests. The home teams are a place for skaters to continue developing their skills while also learning teamwork and advanced strategy. The Denver Roller Derby home teams primarily play intraleague bouts, but will occasionally play against the home teams of other local leagues. The current home teams are the BAD APPLES, the TUSSLE SPROUTS, the GRAPES OF WRATH and the ORANGE CRUSHERS.

The best skaters on each home team may also compete on one of Denver Roller Derby's three traveling all-star teams: MILE HIGH CLUB, BRUISING ALTITUDE, and THE STANDBYS. The Mile High Club (MHC) represents DRD on the national level. These are the most feared and ferocious skaters in the league. The Mile High Club has consistently been ranked among the top ten in the nation since their third place finish at the national championships in 2009, and has produced internationally recognized skaters.

Denver Roller Derby is so overflowing with talent that we've had to form two more traveling teams. In 2009 a second traveling team, Bruising Altitude, was formed and has become one of the fiercest "B" teams in the country. It is a place for up and coming skaters to gain experience and continue to sharpen their skills while preparing to make the jump to MHC.

In 2014, to keep pace with the league's growing talent, we made yet another traveling team: The Standbys. The Standbys have all of the fun, and provide a great training ground for skaters to sharpen their skills by skating against other smaller, local leagues.

League Composition

Home Teams

Home teams are the backbone of every roller derby league. Skaters who’ve passed standardized rules and on-skates skills tests are eligible to be drafted onto one of our home teams:

  • BAD APPLES

  • TUSSLE SPROUTS

  • ORANGE CRUSHERS

  • GRAPES OF WRATH

Our home teams primarily play each other throughout the home team season, though they will occasionally square off with home teams from nearby leagues. Ultimate bragging rights go to the annual league champs.

Travel Teams

  • Mile High Club

  • Bruising Altitude

  • The Standbys

Skaters who show dedication, talent and drive to compete at a higher level may be drafted onto one of three travel teams. The Mile High Club is our All-Star squad, and represents DRD as our WFTDA A Charter team and the league’s highest competitive level of skaters. Bruising Altitude is our WFTDA B Charter Team, who also compete at an extremely high level within the region. The Standbys are our C Charter team, and also include a non-sanctioned developmental team, formed to give more skaters the opportunity to gain interleague experience.

Junior Roller Derby

MAJOR TURBULENCE and MINOR TURBULENCE are DRD’s A and B junior roller derby teams and members of the Junior Roller Derby Association. Girls and boys from 6 to 17 years old compete on teams split up by age and skill level, after starting out in the JET SCHOOL for new junior skaters. Formerly the Glitterdome Gladiators, our Juniors are the tough, skilled next generation of skaters in our sport.

Men’s Roller Derby

Denver Roller Derby is proud to support their brother league, Denver's Ground Control, the only men's roller derby league in Colorado. Started in July of 2014, Ground Control is now an official member of the Men's Roller Derby Association since March 2015.
