Broderick joined Ground Control shortly after moving to Denver, at one of the team's first recruiting events. Although he has many years of experience on skates, Ground Control is his first competitive men's roller derby team. He got started in roller derby with a brief stint as a referee, then moved on to the coaching staff of the Lansing Derby Vixens, a WFTDA league in Michigan's capital city. As head coach of LDV's Capital Corruption, he worked alongside the league's up-and-coming skaters to build Corruption into one of Michigan's most feared B Teams. He moved to Colorado in 2014 with his wife, Tricia, and their children.
Broderick has played ice hockey most of his life, which is what you do when you're from Detroit. He also skated on quads recreationally, though he never took to inline hockey.
